Looking Back on the Year I Chose Nourishment

January 2026

There are years that quietly pass, and then there are years that change everything.

As I look back on this past year, I can see how deeply it reshaped my life, not all at once, but through small, intentional choices that slowly added up to something bigger.

In September 2024, I walked away from my career. Not because I had everything figured out, but because I felt a strong pull toward something more aligned: nutrition, homegrown food, and building a life rooted in purpose rather than pressure.

What followed was a year of learning, slowing down, and reconnecting with the basics.

A Year of Homegrown, Nourishing Meals

Food became central in a new way. Not rushed meals or convenience eating but food made with intention.

Meals built from:

  • homegrown ingredients
  • simple, whole foods
  • recipes that nourished rather than depleted

Cooking from scratch became less about rules and more about care for my body, my family, and my energy. Nutrition stopped being abstract and started becoming lived experience.

Raising Ducks & Living With the Seasons

Raising runner ducks grounded me in the rhythm of daily care.
Feeding, cleaning, observing, learning, all of it required presence.

They taught me:

  • patience
  • consistency
  • respect for natural cycles

Life began to move at the pace of daylight, weather, and seasons rather than deadlines and expectations.

Letting Go of “Busy”

Stepping away from my career also meant stepping away from constant urgency.

This year wasn’t perfect or polished. It was slower. Sometimes uncertain. Often quiet.

But it was honest.

I learned that building something meaningful - a homestead, a business, a nourishing life - doesn’t happen in a rush. It happens when you give yourself permission to grow gradually.

Why I’m Sharing This

This reflection isn’t about having it all figured out.

It’s for anyone who feels the pull toward:

  • slower living
  • more intentional food choices
  • work that aligns with values
  • a life that feels nourishing rather than exhausting

If you’re standing at the edge of a change, unsure but hopeful, this is your reminder that small steps still count.

Looking Ahead

As I move forward into this next season, my focus remains the same:

  • nutrition that supports real life
  • homegrown food where possible
  • sharing what I’m learning honestly
  • building The Gluten Free Homestead with intention

This past year laid the foundation.
The next one builds on it.
